Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone Collection System Evaluation and Maintenance Program

San Antonio Water System has embarked on a major effort to protect the Edwards Aquifer from leakage of wastewater. The goal of the project is to identify and repair any defects in the piping or structures of the SAWS wastewater system located within the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone.

Texas law requires testing of the system over the recharge zone every five years. Testing must be performed on every line that is at least 6 inches in diameter to find out whether there are any defects. (Title 30 Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 213 - Edwards Aquifer Rule.)

The current project includes over 56 miles of sewer mains and 1,000 manholes.

The project is being managed by RJN Group, Inc., a national leader in municipal infrastructure infiltration/inflow reduction programs and associated rehabilitation of sanitary sewers.

For detailed information including maps, photos and construction schedules, please visit the project Web site at www.rjn-earz.com.
