SAWS Responds to Sewer Spill Near Ingram Mall

San Antonio Water System (SAWS) is reporting a sewer overflow that occurred in northwest San Antonio in a construction site behind Ingram Park Mall. Overnight rainfall contributed to the spill and cleanup efforts.

As part of a larger construction project, contractors were replacing the 24-inch sewer main when a section collapsed, allowing the sewage to escape. The contractor was able to contain the spill within the construction zone. The main overflowed more than 100,000 gallons of rainwater and sewage mixed, requiring public notice to the community.  No adverse impacts from the spill have been observed. SAWS crews will continue to monitor the area.

Replacement of the 24-inch sewer main with the new 36-inch sewer main is scheduled for completion next week.
