SAWS Affordability Programs Help Ease the Burden of Utility Costs

In 2014, SAWS Affordability programs helped more than 45,000 families. This year, our goal is to help even more families by improving the qualification system for quicker assistance and developing new funding streams.

SAWS offers two payment assistance programs for families who qualify: Project Agua, a one-time, direct payment assistance for customers with a threat of disconnection; and the Affordability Discount, which helps reduce the monthly bill amount. Families may even qualify for an extension or exemption of late fees without penalty.

If you or someone you know is disabled, a senior citizen, or a victim of domestic violence and meets the Federal Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you may qualify. Additionally, if you have a medical necessity or are a military veteran, SAWS offers a 24-hour courtesy notice for service interruptions due to nonpayment.

Please visit saws.org/service/affordability to find out more. Or, call us at 210-233-CARE (2273) or email affordability@saws.org.
