Deep Diving for Drips

Move over, sewer robots. The water distribution side of the business is ready for its day in the tech-savvy spotlight. SAWS’ Board recently approved a $2.5 million, multiyear contract with Pure Technologies to assess the condition of the utility’s large-diameter water mains from the inside out — using video, acoustic and electromagnetic technologies. The Large Diameter Water Main Assessment Program aims to reduce water loss through proactive analysis of more than 1,000 miles of 16-inch and larger pipes.
