SAWS Crews Respond to Sewer Spill

San Antonio Water System crews are responding to a sewer spill that occurred as a result of a 24-inch sewer main collapse in the 13000 block of Ray Ellison Boulevard near Highway 90.

A bypass has already been established and the spill has been contained. This area was already targeted in the scope of work developed for the EPA consent decree (see www.saws.org/sewer), but the line failed before construction work could begin.

Work on the site is budgeted at $5.7 million with a project time of about one year. The collapse may require this estimate to change.

No adverse impacts are expected; however, the amount of sewage exiting the system exceeded the requirement for public notice. See the TCEQ notice for more details.

See TCEQ Notice (pdf) for more details.
