Final Backflow Notices May Result in Water Cutoffs

Starting this week, SAWS will be issuing final notices to businesses who have refused to comply with the SAWS Cross-Connection Control and Backflow Prevention Program. Customers who receive the final notices will have three days to complete the requirements or their water service will be turned off until they are in compliance.

“The goal of the program is to safeguard our public drinking water and protect the health of our customers,” said Scott Halty SAWS Director of Resource Protection and Compliance. “All customers with backflow preventers have been notified multiple times in multiple ways of their need for inspection and testing to be in compliance, and it is now necessary to force action in order to protect the water system.”

SAWS issued 5 notices to businesses via mail as well as in-person visits by inspectors explaining the need to comply as well as consequences. This week, Notices of Termination will be issued.

Individuals and businesses must provide the annual test and maintenance report to SAWS within three days, of the final notice, to comply and avoid disconnection. Failure to comply will result in termination of water service and is considered a violation of Chapter 34, Article VI, Division 8 of the City of San Antonio Code of Ordinances as well as a violation of State of Texas regulations.

Violators pending disconnection currently include:
• Flores C Store, 8107 S Flores St.
• CVS Pharmacy, 103 SW Military Dr.
• Timberwood Development Co., 25120 Blanco Rd.
• Allied Lube Texas LP/Jiffy Lube, 6603 FM 78
• Fitness International LLC/LA Fitness, 17138 Bulverde Rd.
• Marcos A. Ruiz , DDS, PA, 126 E Mistletoe Ave.
