Steps to fix your faucet leak

Step 1
Turn off water under the sink or the customer shut-off valve.

Step 2
Remove the handle screw and the handle.

Step 3
Remove the packing and stem nuts.

Step 4
Unscrew the stem (by hand).

Step 5
Inspect stem threads for wear; replace if needed.

Step 6
Replace worn washers.

Step 7
Check seat for roughneses. If so, redress or replace it.

Step 8
Put it all back together and turn on the water supply. Check for leaks.

Fixing the Leak

Note: Your water meter tells you how much water you are using each month. You can monitor your meter yourself to check for leaks in your water system.

Tools needed:

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Replacement washer
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • Towel
  • Awl
