2006 was an extraordinary year for San Antonio Water System. We successfully managed through an extended drought period and a record-setting main break season; experienced higher than projected customer growth; and, implemented several significant business process improvements that resulted in greater operational efficiencies.
Most notably, last year was our second consecutive record financial year, with a net income of $55.6 million and $181.9 million added to equity.

Additionally, 2006 saw the completion of several initiatives that allow us to provide better service to our customers:
- A “No Rate Increase” budget for 2007,
- The addition of the first surface water supply to our system, delivering purified Canyon Lake water,
- The commissioning of a new state-of-the-art regional Environmental Laboratory at our Dos Rios Water Recycling Center, and
- The revision of the impact fee program that will contribute $45 million in annual revenues for growth-related infrastructure.
Finally, please take a moment to look inside for a list of the 2006 awards earned by SAWS in recognition of our continuing efforts to improve water quality and utility operations. We are most proud of the Best Tasting Water in Texas award from the Texas Section of the American Water Works Association.
Managing forward, our track record of success will continue to provide financial and operational stability for the benefit of our customers and the region. Please know it is always a pleasure and a privilege to serve you, and we look forward to reporting another great year of achievements in 2007.
