SAWS Crews Responding to Sewer Spill at W. Military Drive

San Antonio Water System crews are responding to a sewer spill that occurred at W. Military Drive and Leon Creek.

The spill was the result of recent rains inundating sewer lines which are in an active sewer construction zone. (See attached TCEQ notice for more details.) No adverse impacts are expected since the spill has been heavily diluted by stormwater.

The SAWS W-1 Leon Creek Upper Segment Project, which includes this area, is under construction for $12 million. W-1 will replace and upsize about one and a half miles of 42-inch gravity sewer main with 84-inch gravity sewer main along Leon Creek. This project will replace aging infrastructure that conveys more than 70 percent of the sewershed’s total flow to the treatment plant. W-1 is part of the work required by San Antonio’s agreement with the U.S. EPA to address capacity constrained sewer infrastructure across the city.
