San Antonio Water System is among eight drinking water utilities across the country recently honored by the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA).
According to AMWA, the Sustainable Water Utility Management Award recognizes “water utilities that have made a commitment to management that achieves a balance of innovative and successful efforts in areas of economic, social and environmental endeavors.”
SAWS first received the award in 2019.
“The last two years have brought unforeseen challenges to many in the water sector, and SAWS has strived to put our customers first in everything we do,” said Robert R. Puente, SAWS President/CEO. “Receiving this accolade for a second time reminds us that we’re on the right track with the many goals and responsibilities we’re currently balancing.”
AMWA lauded the utility for its achievements in fiscal management, environmental stewardship and social responsibility, noting that SAWS rates remained affordable throughout the pandemic.
Earlier this week, SAWS Board of Trustees approved the 2023 budget, which includes a new rate structure that would lower bills for most residential customers.
The awards ceremony was held Oct. 31 at a conference in Savannah, Ga.
