Aquifer Protection Plan
As part of the City of San Antonio’s efforts to protect water quality in Bexar County and as a direct result of the “33 Mandates,” the Aquifer Protection Ordinance No. 81491 was passed by the San Antonio City Council on Jan. 12, 1995. Ordinance No. 81491 requires all identified Category 2 and 3 properties over the Recharge Zone in Bexar County to have a completed Aquifer Protection Plan prior to development of the site. Please download the Aquifer Protection Plan if you need to fill one out for a Category 2 or 3 property.

Aquifer Protection (AqPP) Plan Request Letter
The following letter is an example of an Aquifer Protection Plan request letter made to the Aquifer Protection & Evaluation Section of SAWS. Please mail the letter with the completed Aquifer Protection Plan or Aquifer Protection Plan Variance to:

Example AqPP Request Letter[date] Mr. Michael Barr, Supervisor Re: [Project name or description (if no name available)] Dear Mr. Barr: We are hereby submitting an application for an AqPP for the above reference property. The property consists of [number] acres located [location description]. We have included the Aquifer Protection Plan required by Chapter 34 of the San Antonio City Code Article VI, Division 6 for properties determined to be either a Category 2 or Category 3.
